FINDING THE RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share a few tips about finding the perfect photographer. You might think it’s not really a big deal because a photographer is..well..a photographer! They merely stand there and take pictures. In reality, photography is so much more than just that. Below are a few key points to help you identify the right photographer.

First and foremost, it's important to find a photographer whose style and aesthetic align with your vision. Some examples of specific styles are romantic and candid, light and airy, edgy and contemporary, moody and atmospheric, etc. The list goes on! It's crucial to find a photographer who understands your desired aesthetic and can deliver the kind of images you seek. Otherwise, you may be setting yourself up for disappointment.

The obvious start might be a quick Google search. If you start here, be sure to READ THE REVIEWS!! Trust me, both happy and unhappy clients leave reviews. It’s a fantastic way to start weeding through all the different photographers in your area. Sometimes Google can get overwhelming, so if Google is not your thing, try searching hashtags on Facebook or Instagram! Search hashtags related to your area and the type of photography you're interested in.

As you come across different photographers, think about the type of services they are offering. Do they specialize in a particular type of photography (weddings, portraits, commercial, etc.)? If you desire a candid family session, a commercial photographer may not be the best option for you, as they specialize in something completely different than what you’re expecting. It's important to find a photographer who can accommodate your specific needs and budget.

Once you've found a few photographers that you like, it's time to do even MORE research! If you found them via social media, check out their website. Ask yourself, is the website aesthetically pleasing? Does it look up to date? You'll want their website to reflect what's on their social media for the most part (I’ll explain more shortly).

Something else I feel is really important to mention, is that you should start your search with an emphasis on visuals. Of course keep your budget in mind but try to be open. It’s important to realize that photography can be pretty expensive. That’s why I suggest to start your search with an emphasis on visuals and fall in love with the artist’s work. If you start your search with the idea you’re going to find quality photography (art) really cheap, you’re going to end up disappointed in the end. Don’t completely forget about your budget, but if you love a photographer’s art and it makes you feel good when looking at it, they’re worth the price.

At this point, you should have a good idea of which photographer works best for you. But how do you ensure that your final choice is the absolute best?

Think back on that photographer's online presence and reputation. Remember when I mentioned your photographers social media and website should match..? This is where I was going. If they regularly post updates and content as well as engage with their audience, they’re likely to be more responsive, attentive and reliable.

There you have it! I hope you found this information to be helpful in your search for the right photographer. If you're interested in booking a session with us, visit the contact page or click the button below!
